Ordination to Diaconate - 08/29/12

(20 images)

Deacon Simeon Terry Peet

On August 29th, the Feast of the Beheading of Saint John the Baptist, Diocesan Diaconal Formation Program [DFP] graduate Simeon Terry Peet was ordained to the Holy Diaconate by Bishop Michael during the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy at Saints Peter and Paul Orthodox Church, Endicott NY. Deacon Simeon was a member of the program’s inaugural class at the Endicott NY Campus.  He and eight of his fellow classmates graduated and received a Certificate in Diaconal Formation during commencement ceremonies at Saint Tikhon’s Seminary on 26 May 2012.

A luncheon reception followed the Liturgy, and Bishop Michael was greeted with a rousing rendition of “Happy Birthday” as a celebratory cake was presented.

“Many Years!” to the newly ordained Deacon Simeon.  "Axios!"  Having exhibited great commitment and perseverance in completing the intensive 2-year DFP, he has received a blessing and the grace of ordination to serve (diakonia) and witness (martyria) in the Church as a deacon.

History and support

The DFP came into being and continues thanks to the vision of His Grace, Bishop Michael, and through the financial support from the Distinguished Diocesan Benefactors initiative. By providing essential support to existing parishes, support to mission parishes, and support for our diocesan seminarians, Distinguished Diocesan Benefactors [DDB] participate in the on-going vibrant life of our Church and the building-up of the Body of Christ throughout New Jersey and New York.  For complete information about the DDB and an invitation to join in the effort, please go HERE.

New Students
Diaconal Formation Program

New students in the Diaconal Formation Program will soon join second-year classmates in the 2-year/4-semester course of intense study. Those interested in the program should contact their parish rector for details. Rectors should contact Father Alexey Karlgut or Bishop Michael with their blessing and recommendation for a student to be enrolled.

The semester will begin in Endicott NY on Saturday, September 15th, with Divine Liturgy at 9:30 am followed by registration and orientation.
