On “World Hunger Day” ~ October 16, 2010 ~ Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in East Meadow NY spearheaded their first CROP Hunger Walk to raise funds for the work of Church World Service in combating hunger locally and around the world.

Some 40 men, women and children buffeted the gale force winds to “take the walk” in Eisenhower Park.  Although the walkers were small in number, the sponsorship of family and friends made their efforts worthwhile. The money raised will go to local relief, to the two food pantries of the Long Island Council of Churches, and to the North Shore Sheltering Program.  Father Martin Kraus, pastor of Holy Trinity, was joined by Reverend Cedric Johnson, pastor of the United Methodist Church in East Meadow.  Members from the South Nassau Community Church of Baldwin also participated.  Eagle Scouts of Troop 1000, led by Ruth Ann Eagen and boy scout Alex Eagen, was on-hand to help with directions and general assistance.
