On Saturday September 20, His Eminence Archbishop Michael served Divine Liturgy at St. Olga of Alaska Mission in Plattsburgh. Also serving was Reader Andrew Karlgut, NYS Dean Archpriest Alexey Karlgut, Archpriest Sergei Sveshnikov, Priest Paul Fedoroff, Benjamin Goes, and altar servers George and Nathaniel. Among the worshipping faithful were founding members, current parishioners, choir members, college students, and visitors. In total, there were 34 people in church for Divine Liturgy.
Upon arrival, the Archbishop was pleased to be greeted by a new face and commented on the healthy signs showing the growth of the Church. His Eminence preached about St. Olga of Alaska's life and canonization, which was especially inspiring since the Archbishop has first-hand experience with her canonization.
After Liturgy, everyone gathered for fellowship and coffee hour. At that time, the Mission had a historic event — the first-ever Special Parish Meeting! At the meeting, Parish Council members were nominated and elected. This is the first step toward incorporation and St. Olga's officially growing into her own Mission Parish. There was no shortage of encouraging words by all.
Continuing the steps forward, Ben Goes (real estate legal counsel) gave an update on the purchase of the building and property that is under contract. Financials were reviewed with much optimism and promise. The day concluded with a short drive to take a tour of the (hopefully) future building and property. God willing, there will soon be an announcement that St. Olga's will have a permanent address and routine services every week!
We invite you to stay connected by visiting the St. Olga’s website and following their journey on Instagram and Facebook for the latest updates and photos.
Righteous Olga of Kwethluk, Wonderworker, Matushka of all Alaska, pray to God for us!
