Presbyter Theodore Gregory, age 68, of Colonia passed away on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital in New Brunswick, surrounded by his loving family. Born in New Brunswick to the late Feodor and Olga Grygalczuk, Fr. Theodore was raised in South River. He was a lifelong parishioner of Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church., where he served on the altar and sang in the choir.
On June 13, 1981, he married Lorissa Borak; they remained in love and devoted unconditionally to one another for 44 years. Together, they raised four children, in love and faith.
While living in Hunterdon County, Fr. Theodore heard his calling to serve and began studying at St. Stephen’s Cathedral in Philadelphia. He was ordained as a sub-deacon in December of 2011. His ordination as deacon was in March of 2016 at St. Gregory Palamas Orthodox Church in Glen Gardner, NJ. He later continued his studies at St. Tikhon’s Seminary, where he graduated in May of 2016.
Fr. Theodore was assigned to Holy Trinity Orthodox Church in Rahway, NJ in July of 2016. During his time there, he worked tirelessly to serve God and Church. Among his contributions, he served as chaplain to the Rahway Police Department, organized coat drives, established a men’s club in the church, and hosted an annual service for the blessing of the local first responders.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 44 years, Matushka Lorissa Gregory, his children Philip and wife Sunny, Amy and husband Patrick, Alexandra, and Nicholas, his grandson Zachary, as well as many extended family and friends.
Visitation will take place on Thursday, at Holy Trinity Orthodox Church at 830 Jefferson Ave in Rahway, from 1pm until 2pm, with a 2pm Pannikhida. A second visitation will take place on Thursday evening, from 6pm until 7pm at Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church at 76 Whitehead Avenue in South River, followed by a 7pm Funeral for a Priest.
A Divine Liturgy will be held on Friday, at 10am at Saints Peter and Paul Russian Orthodox Church in South River. A burial will follow at Saints Peter and Paul Cemetery in South River.
