Church School Conference
NY STATE DEANERY

Saint John the Baptist Orthodox Church in Rochester NY hosted the regional 2016 Church School Conference for the parishes of the New York State Deanery on Saturday, 13 August 2016. Two additional regional conferences are scheduled for the New Jersey and New York City Deaneries (20 & 27 August, respectively).  The facilitator, Jennifer Hock, presented “Church School Approaches for Small Classrooms, One-Room Classrooms, and Special Needs Children.” Each year these conferences, developed and sponsored by the diocesan Department of Christian Education, are offered at no-fee to church school coordinators and teachers.

“Jennifer Hock brought wonderful perspectives from her varied experiences in all sorts of different educational settings,” said church school teacher Celeste Gregor (Rochester NY). “It was clear,” she continued, “she is passionate about educating children and involving them in all aspects of church life; teaching through hands-on experiences and interactive learning.”

Victoria Stavrevsky, a church school teacher at the host parish, said:  “She gave excellent ideas on things teachers can do to help parents of children with special needs … you can tell this subject is something that deeply touches Jennifer’s heart.”
