Here at the beautiful campus of St. Andrew’s, campers came from all over to join in the festivities of Adventure Week! Starting with check-ins and happy reunions with friends, camp was off to a great start. After everyone's arrival, campers enjoyed time to cool off in the lake while doing swim tests. Finishing off a great first day with a molieben, dinner, and orientation.
Every day at St. Andrew’s is packed with exciting activities including capture the flag, gaga ball, soccer, volleyball, kayaking, archery, crafts, and more. This week campers had the opportunity to go tenting and enjoyed roasting meatballs over the fire! The Moonlit nights were spectacular!
During this past week we had the privilege of having Father Ambrose Inlow be our priest and religious education teacher. He focused on teaching all about Holy Week. Every day, campers were involved in a hands-on lesson including acting out several Bible stories. Another highlight of Adventure Week was a survival course activity with the tactical name of “Operation Tribal Grounds”. The campers were divided into two tribes and were instructed to come up with a tribal name and chant. They learned how to start a fire, send a signal, basic first aid, filter water, and how to react to many wilderness encounters. At the end of the week, there was a competition covering all of the skills that were learned over the week as well as an ultimate game of capture the flag. The competition was an exciting culmination to a fun week!
On Wednesday, the campers enjoyed an amazing field trip to Chittenango Falls for a nice hike and then traveled to Verona Beach for some recreational fun. The views and vibes were amazing! As if a field trip wasn’t enough excitement for one day, the campers enjoyed a campfire with some silly songs and s'mores!
The rest of the week was full of fun games and learning with a special visit from Archbishop Michael! Campers asked many questions during the Q&A session and enjoyed hearing about Vladika’s recent visit to Alaska for the canonization of Matushka Olga! Ending off an amazing week with liturgy and a pirate themed night full of activities ranging from a treasure hunt, shark throwing, and a pirate duel!
Memories were made and good times shared; all here at the beautiful campus of St. Andrew’s.
