Father Matthias (Moriak) Elected Bishop of Chicago
Father Matthias Moriak, currently assigned to Holy Myrrhbearers Monastery (Otego NY), was canonically elected by the Holy Synod of Bishops of the Orthodox Church in America to the vacant See of Chicago and the Midwest on November 16, 2010.
Following a lengthy search process, Father Matthias was nominated to the Holy Synod from a slate of three candidates by delegates at a special Assembly of the Midwest Diocese convened at Saint Mary Cathedral, Minneapolis MN on October 6, 2010. His name was then submitted to the Holy Synod for canonical election.
