Holy Apostles Orthodox Church, Saddle Brook NJ, commemorated the 45th anniversary of its founding on Saturday, 31 May 2014. The Divine Liturgy was celebrated by His Grace, Bishop Michael, and concelebrated by Father Matthew Brown (Rector) and guest clergy: Father Thomas Edwards (former parish rector for 29 years), Father John Nehrebecki, Father Paul Kucynda, Father David Vernak, Father Stephen Krivonak, Father Stephen Evanina, and Father Igor Kseniuk. Assisting during the service were: Deacon Nicholas Garklavs and Sub-Deacons Peter Eagler, Mark Federoff, and Alexander Vlachos. Following the service, festivities continued well into the afternoon.
At the conclusion of the Liturgy, two Certificates of Appreciation (“grammota”) were awarded. The first, was presented to Leonard Davis a founding member and long-time choir director for his many years of faithful service. The second, was presented to Father Matthew, the Parish Council, and Parishioners for their faithful service on the occasion of the 45th anniversary.
Following the service the festivities continued well into the afternoon during a luncheon at La Riviera Trattoria. A toast was made by Father Matthew and speeches were given by Bishop Michael, Father Nehrebecki and Father Edwards. At the conclusion of the celebration the Andreyev Musical Society (a not-for-profit organization which promotes the musical heritage of Slavic culture) presented a check for $31,000 to Holy Apostles Orthodox Church. Leonard Davis, chairman of the organization's board, personally presented this donation to the parish.
