Inspired by the Holy Gospel, the clergy and faithful of Holy Apostles Orthodox Church, Saddle Brook, NJ, have undertaken “Project Backpack”, an initiative to assist needy children at Eva’s Village Residences and Shelters, in Paterson, NJ.
Moved to action by our Lord’s teaching, “…Inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me” (Matt. 25:40), Holy Apostles parish collected about $600 in donations and a wide variety of student school supplies and backpacks to distribute among the children in residence with their families at Eva’s Village.
Father Jacob Ramsey, Acting Rector of Holy Apostles Church, blessed the donated backpacks and school supplies following the Divine Liturgy on Sunday, August 29. Assisting Father Jacob in the blessing were parish Deacon John Holoduek, himself a former school district administrator; Reader John Holoduek, Jr., a current high school instructor, who coordinated Project Backpack; and the parishioners of the Saddle Brook church.
Holy Apostles Church plans a Thanksgiving Turkey Drive for its next outreach project.
May God be glorified through these humble efforts!
