On Sunday, 20 May, Archpriest John and Matushka Eugenia Nehrebecki celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary [22 May] at Christ the Saviour Church in Paramus NJ. His Grace, Bishop Michael, celebrated the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy assisted by Father John, Father David Vernak, Father Stephen Vernak, and Deacon Paul Sokol. The Choir was directed by Theodora Gramkow. His Grace preached and extolled the virtues of the couple’s marriage, especially their faithful life and labors in the Church.
Approximately 250 family members, clergy, parishioners and friends gathered for a festive banquet. The six Nehrebecki children (Vladimir, Mariam, Tatiana, Olga, Anastasia and Theodora) made a short presentation, speaking about their life together and singing a sweet song from their youth which they remembered and performed flawlessly. They said:
“Over the last 60 years our parents have shared a rare commitment very few people have achieved. Not only the commitment to each other and our family, but the commitment they have made to God and the Church. When they married, they married not just each other but they became three as they also married Christ. Their parents Michael and Veronica Nehrebecki and Father Elias and Euphrosinia Yankovsky taught them by example and raised them in the Church; they met each other in Church and chose the Church to become the center their lives. They have led their lives as examples for all of us, by simply living their lives.”
In addition to their children, the celebration included 20 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
Father John and Matushka Eugenia ended the festivities with a heartfelt “Thank-you” to those joining them in celebration of their anniversary.
