ONEONTA NY: Archpastoral Visit

Archbishop Michael visited Saint Innocent Orthodox Mission in Oneonta NY on 26-27 August 2017. He offered an inspirational sermon at the end of Great Vespers service celebrated on Saturday evening by Father Vasil Dubee (parish rector) and Deacon Stephan Karlgut. The parish enjoyed dinner together with His Eminence at Nina's Restaurant in Oneonta. On Sunday, His Eminence was greeted with flowers presented by Veronika Dubee. He was also greeted with traditional bread and salt on behalf of the parish council by council member (Reader) Matthew Masterjohn.

Father Vasil expressed his joy to have His Eminence at Saint Innocent Orthodox Mission as the diocesan Archbishop, spiritual father, and loving shepherd.

The hierarchical Divine Liturgy was concelebrated by: Father Vasil Dubee, Archpriest Alexey Karlgut (Dean, NY State Deanery), Deacon Stephan Karlgut, Sub-Deacon Robert West, and an abundance of servers.

“The choir was lead by Matushka Anastasia Karlgut,” said Father Vasil.  “… and the singing was absolutely beautiful!”

During the service, Father Vasil was awarded the privilege of wearing the nabedrenyk and was installed as Rector of Saint Innocent Orthodox Mission. Following the Hierarchical Divine Liturgy, the annual parish picnic was held at Gilbert Lake State Park in nearby Laurens NY.

Father Vasil commented:  “Everyone enjoyed a beautiful day in the Lord. We thank Almighty God for giving us such an opportunity to spend the weekend together in prayer and fellowship. We especially wish to express our most sincere thanks to His Eminence, Archbishop Michael for his visitation and continued support and encouragement for our humble parish; to Archpriest Alexey Karlgut, Deacon Stephan Karlgut, and all others who served in the altar! We also wish to express our gratitude to Matushka Anastasia Karlgut and to Matushka Tatiana Khalimonova for leading the choir in beautiful praise to Our Lord.  Truly, it was an uplifting and wonderful day! Glory be to God!”
