The Diocese of New York and New Jersey is excited to announce the Level 1 Catechist Formation Course: Part A for Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS), scheduled for June 9th-13th, 2025, at St. Tikhon’s Seminary. This transformative program offers a unique opportunity for adults to deepen their spiritual lives and enrich their ability to guide children in forming a profound relationship with God.
About Catechesis of the Good Shepherd (CGS)
CGS is a Montessori-based Christian education program designed to invite children into a deeper participation in the Liturgy and a fuller understanding of the Gospel. By creating a prepared environment tailored to children’s spiritual needs, CGS offers a space for exploration, wonder, and joyful prayer.
As St. Theophan the Recluse reminds us, “Of all the holy works, the education of children is the most holy.” This course equips catechists to embrace that calling by uniting the heart, mind, and hands in service to God and His children.
Highlights of the Formation
Participants in this 45-hour course will:
- Learn to observe and nurture the spiritual needs of children.
- Engage with parables and liturgical signs that unveil the Kingdom of God as revealed in Scripture.
- Cultivate a prayerful environment in the atrium (classroom), a place where silence gives birth to joyful contemplation.
- Strengthen their own spiritual lives while guiding children to deepen their relationship with the living God.
