Eight parishioners from Saint John the Baptist Church in Rochester NY joined the extraordinarily dedicated volunteers of Saint Peter’s Kitchen near the city’s center neighborhood in preparing and serving a full-menu lunch meal on 19 October 2016. “We served 122 people who comprise a loving and socially interactive community with varying degrees of need,” said Father Ken James Stavrevsky (parish rector). “The example of Christian love and philanthropy exhibited by those who labor at Saint Peter’s is amazing … serving a restaurant quality hot lunch meal Monday through Friday every week. It was an honor and great blessing to labor with them!”
The team from Saint John parish assisted in preparing an amazing lunch: pork chops, French fried potatoes, a hot vegetable medley, mixed salad, fruit cups, soup, dessert, and drinks. Thanks to local groceries and Food Link (a local food gathering and distribution center serving a large number of those in need), loaves of bread, fresh apples and pears, and other food essentials were also available for the community to take home for future meals.
The parish team … Marge Cavalcanti, Ann Michael Henry, Charles Cowling, Andrea Fedoruk, Stephanie Keller, Sara Tinkelman, Matushka Nadine Brown, and Father Ken … will certainly bring a message of kindness and blessings back to their parish. It is hoped that the parish will increase participation by faithful parishioners and regularly contribute to the on-going good works of love at Saint Peter’s Kitchen.
